What You Can Do

Orthodontic treatment will only get you part of the way to achieving that picture-perfect smile. To get the best results, you will need to fulfill your obligations at home. This includes maintaining good dental hygiene in the form of regular brushing and flossing, as well as attending professional dental cleans twice a year.

You will also need to make healthy dietary choices. We recommend steering clear of hard, chewy and sticky foods. These include nuts, chips, popcorn, apples, raw carrots and more. You should also avoid sugary foods like caramel, lollies and bubble gum, as well as soft drinks.

If you are prescribed elastics, you will be required to use them at the specified times given by your orthodontist. While you may experience some pain or discomfort at first, this should subside over time. The more you wear your elastics, the sooner they will no longer be needed in your treatment!

Using Clear Aligners

If you have been prescribed clear aligners, you will need to wear them at the times outlined by your orthodontist. By staying up to date with this routine, you can continue to hit and exceed those treatment milestones! Our orthodontists will provide all the information needed to help you look after these appliances.

Be sure to regularly clean your aligners after wearing them. This should be done with clean water and a toothbrush.
