Developmental Support
Catch Issues Early
If you are concerned about your child’s teeth and bite alignment, they may require orthodontic treatment from a licensed team. At Tamworth Orthocare, we offer a range of assessments and treatments for clients of all ages throughout Regional NSW, including those as young at 7. Our team aims to improve your child’s wellbeing through tailored care and oral health monitoring.
At our practice, we encourage early orthodontic assessments, as this can have a significant effect on the healthy development of your child’s teeth, jaw and facial structure. Some children will not require interceptive orthodontic management, while others will benefit from early treatment.
Your child may need to wait for their permanent teeth to come through before corrective procedures can begin. Regardless, with pre-care assessments, our orthodontic team can plan treatments accordingly, helping guide your child’s oral development into the future.

Timely Intervention
From 12 – 14 Years
Usually, fixed orthodontic treatments like braces cannot be used until all adult teeth have grown in, which generally occurs between the ages of 12 and 14. From this time, the orthodontist can then commence treatment, with duration lasting from 9 – 36 months, depending on the severity of the malocclusion and misalignment.
Some examples of treatment include:
RME
RME stands for Rapid Maxillary Expansion (RME). The process is used to widen the upper jaw with an expander fixed to your child’s upper teeth. This can be used correct a crossbite, eliminate overcrowding and improve breathing.
URA
URA stands for Upper Removal Appliance. The process uses a removable orthodontic plate that is fitted to the upper teeth and palate. Some URAs have springs to move protruding or sunken teeth.
Twin Block
Twin blocks are removeable appliances used to align jawbones and straighten teeth. One is placed on the upper jaw, while the other is placed on the lower.
Preventative advantages
Benefits of Early Orthodontics
At Tamworth Orthocare, we are here to help your child benefit from early interceptive treatment. While a straight smile is a nice side effect of child orthodontics—it isn’t the main benefit. Through targeted treatment, we can improve your child’s ability to bite, chew, breathe and talk.
Reduced malocclusion and misalignment can also help with the development of teeth, lips and facial structure—improving confidence and stopping habits like mouth breathing. This can also minimise the likelihood of future decay and gum disease. For more information, get in touch with Tamworth Orthocare on (02) 6766 5833.
