Dental Care in Regional NSW

Look After Your Teeth

At Tamworth Orthocare, we provide a range of assessments and treatments for all types of malocclusion and tooth misalignment. We pride ourselves on creating customised treatment plans for clients of all ages across Regional NSW, including Tamworth, Gunnedah, Narrabri, Armidale, Muswellbrook and Scone.

We make a point to provide in-depth advice and assistance throughout the duration of your treatment. This includes dietary, cleaning and care recommendations. To ensure the best results for your orthodontic treatment, you will need to fulfill your obligations at home and between sessions. You will also need to continue visiting a licensed dentist for routine cleans and check-ups during the course of your orthodontic treatment.

Our skilled team is here with state-of-the-art equipment to provide oral health monitoring, however, there are many responsibilities that you yourself must fulfil to get the best results. Get in touch with our team to learn more on (02) 6766 5833.

Caring For Your Braces

To avoid damaging your braces, you should refrain from eating gum, toffee, popcorn, nuts, hard biscuits and other chewy and sticky foods. These products can pull the brackets from your teeth or break the wires in your braces.

Similarly, you should refrain from biting into apples, raw carrots and other foods with your two front teeth—as this poses the same risk. Instead, try cutting these foods into manageable sized pieces and chewing them with your molars.

Your braces are full of nooks and crannies that can trap food and plaque. That’s why it’s so important to avoid high sugar foods and always stay up to date with brushing and flossing. We can provide specialised floss brushes to clean beneath the wires of your braces.

Your risk of tooth decay and gum disease is higher with braces. To get the most out of your orthodontic work, smart dietary choices and dental care are a must!

Damage to Tooth Enamel

If you do not keep your teeth clean, you risk damaging or staining your enamel. This becomes particularly noticeable following the removal of braces, as the area beneath the brackets is often left unaffected. The contrast can be stark, with a discernible difference in texture and colour across the surface of the tooth.

To avoid this, we recommend brushing and flossing after every meal. You will need to carry a small cleaning kit, complete with mouthwash, so you can perform this routine at school or work. While this may seem like a hassle, you will be that much happier with the results when your braces are finally removed!

Cleaning Your Retainers or Aligners

If you wear clear plastic retainers, you will need to clean them every day. We recommend cleaning them the moment they are removed from your mouth, before the debris hardens. Brush your retainer with lukewarm water and/or mild dish soap, using a cotton swab to get into the deepest grooves and ridges.

Our orthodontic team can also provide retainer cleaning solutions for those times where your appliance needs a deeper soak. This information will be provided to every client we provide treatment to. Get in touch with Tamworth Orthocare for an assessment or treatment today!
